About AMIE

AMIE is a recognized engineering degree programme that can be studied in the distance education mode. There will be an examintion based on a prescribed syllabus. If you score certain percentage (or grade) in the examination, you will be given a certificate and that certificate will be equivalent to B.Tech/B.E. In order to appear for examination, one should have 'membership' or enrollment with IEI. The membership is nothing but admission itself. Once you got membership you are eligible for applying for AMIE examination. Hence the first step in joining AMIE is applying for membership.
Only enrolled members are eligible for appearing examination

AMIE admission is given based on one's eductional qualification. if you have either a

(1).Diploma in Engineering,

Three years' Engineering Diploma holders, with minimum 18 years age are eligible to apply for AMIE.

(2).Plus Two

Plus Two (PCM) holders with minimum 17 years age are also eligible .

Those who holds any educational qualifications equivalent to or higher than the mentioned eligibility criteria can also apply.

Both AMIE and B.Tech are of same value. The difference is only in the mode of study. While B.Tech can be studied by regular study only, the AMIE gives you an opportunity to get the same degree in the distance education mode.

The application for admission can be submitted at any time.Since the application form processing takes 2 to 3 months, it is suggested to submit your application form well in advance. Along with the application form, the applicant must enclose copies of certificates to prove his age and qualification. You can download membership form Admission Details.

The course fee depends on the mode of study viz. postal or regular.

The AMIE is equivalent to B.Tech/B.E. Those who successfully completes AMIE will get same consideration as a B.Tech/B.E holder for getting job as well as higher studies.

About AMIE Admission

AMIE admissionprocedure is very simple

Only enrolled members are eligible for appearing examination

Based on basic qualification, there are different classes of memberships

(1). Senior Technician

Three years' Engineering Diploma holders, with minimum 18 years age are eligible for applying Senior Technician (ST) Membership. Membership Fee is Rs 5800/-

(2). Technician

Plus Two holders with minimum 17 years age are eligible for applying for Technician Membership. Membership Fee is Rs 5800/-

(3). Associate Members

B.Tech/B.E holders with minimum 21 years age are eligible to become Associates Membership (AMIE). Fee is Rs 3200/-

The application for admission can be submitted at any time.Since the application form processing takes 3 to 4 months, it is suggested to submit your application form well in advance.

Along with the application form, the applicant must enclose copies of certificates to prove his age and qualification.

Online services is available only for payment of fee.Application for membership cannot be submitted online.

As for B.Tech or B.E holders desirous of becoming Associates,may fill up the online form and get the print-out of the same . This printed form, after due verification by a supporter can be sent to head quarters of IEI, Kolkata

AMIE Examination

All students with valid membership registration can apply for appearing AMIE examination.

You can appear for AMIE exam. But before applying for examination you must apply for membership registration. You can apply for exam only after completing your AMIE membershipregistration.

There are many examination centers in all major cities all over India and abroad. You can choose any examination center to your convenience. Moreover, if you wish you can opt for a different exam center for subsequent appearence.

Canidates opted one examination center cannot change it on any circumstances. However they can opt for another exam center in next exam.

The examination is conducted in the first saturday of every June and December.

The examination fee is Rs 2000/-for each semester. But for overseas exam ceners the exam fee is different.

No acknowledgement is given to any student on receipt of exam fee.

Hall Ticket (Admit Card) will be published in website of IEI 2 weeks prior to commencement of exam. Students can use a print out of this page and this will be a valid admit card.

They can also get it directly from the Local/State center of IEI to which they are linked.

Admit card will not be sent by post.

Hall Ticket (Admit Card) will be published in website of IEI 2 weeks prior to commencement of exam. But if you couldnt see your admit card online, you can appear for examination provisinally.

In order to apply for provisional appearance in the exam, the candidate will have to produce valid proof to show that he has applied for exam in time with specified amount of fee. Moreover they will need to deposit a caution money of Rs 1500/- (refundable).

AMIE Membership

The membership is the term used for enrollment into AMIE course. It is also called registration. All enrolled AMIE students will get membership number or ST/T number.

AMIE membership is given to individual based on your educational qualification and age.

Plus Two (PCM) or 3 years Diploma in engineering. Minimum age 17 years. No upper age limit.

Those who meet prescribed eligibility criteria can apply for membership. To apply for AMIE membership one need to apply in the specified format.

ST stands for Senior Technician and T stands for Technician. Both ST and T are two grades of AMIE membership. Once a ST or T member successfully clears all subjects in AMIE examination, his grade becomes A.M.I.E meaning Associate Member of Institution of Engineers.

ST stands for Senior Technician. An ST member is a member of IEI who got membership after passing 3 years diploma in engineering.

T stands for Technician. A T member is a member of IEI who got membership after passing Plus Two.

A Corporate member is a Graduate engineer with sufficient experience and having membership with IEI.

ST and T members collectively called Non-corporate members.
